The Canton loft

The project area lies within an old cake bakery in semi-central Milan, made up originally of a cluster of high-ceiling attics in a 200 metre, small-windowed rectangular area.

The concept of the project is based on the idea of a unitary interior space within which different environments appear almost hanging, without however, creating any interruption. The natural daylight is poor due to the tiny dimension of the already-existing windows but is worked out in such a way as to allow notably enlarged openings on the façade. A garden is uncovered from the adjacent warehouse, treating the surface treated with shingle, essence, evergreens and other vased plants, amongst which there is also a cherry tree.

The large central space of residence stands out as a unified feature of the dining room and kitchen lit up by the large opening facing onto the garden.

Attached to the restoration project of the property, an interior design project is also carried out, one which takes into consideration the theme or idea of a loft as a declared industrial matrix and therefore taking on a range of pieces of furnishing featuring materials such as raw-iron, reclaimed wood and resin-treated concrete hinting at the past memories of the building.

Especially noteworthy are examples such as large steel panels that screen the entrance area, now employed as an exhibition zone for the collection of ceramic masks by the sculptor Francesco Bocchini.
