Office building renovation and reuse, Milano, 2014

Project goal is to redesign an entire factory building switching it from tertiary use to dwellings. The complete restyling is foreseen by a modern and contemporary interpretation which is evident as a complete different structure compared to the surrounding buildings.  Il restyling completo utilizza un linguaggio moderno e contemporaneo che si manifesta nella sua completezza con la formazione di un coronamento altro, diverso e riconoscibile che si discosta naturalmente dagli edifici esistenti.

It consists of the combination of different volumes which create a free and deliberately unstable composition that seems to lean in a non-stable way on the existing grid line. The existing factory building is measured instead with the geometries of the neighboring buildings. The latter is characterized by a coating skin consisting of alternating fixed and open interlocked panels, both full and empty, to interrupt the compositional rigor of the façade. Only the structural skeleton with the central block of the vertical links remains from the existing building. The lower internal courtyard is joined to the basement to form a unique parking area. Above it a new horizon allows the formation of an inner garden with sinuous shapes.
